Postures for dizziness

topic posted Fri, November 9, 2007 - 8:48 AM by  Bala
Blessings...

I was wondering... does anyone know of any asanas/postures that are good for dizziness by chance? I have been feeling dizzy since monday and i just cant seem to to shake it. It is not the kind of dizziness where i feel light headed, it is more of an equalibrium/structural/postural dizziness. I also feel tons of pressure in my head, almost like a head cold without the cold.

Grateful for any feedback.
best wishes...

    Hey Bala,

I am happy to offer information about my experiences with dizziness, but I am not in a position to prescribe anything to help yours. Dizziness can be caused by tons of different things.

In my case, I experience "benign paroxysmal vertigo" for a couple days every year or so. If my allergies get bad and there's a lot of sinus pressure, it can lead to sudden onsets of dizziness where I have to grab on to something to keep from falling over. It feels like the floor just swooshed out from under my feet and the universe is spinning wildly around me. (Incidentally, this is the same experience I get sometimes when meditating deeply....)

When I'm experiencing vertigo, I can barely stand. Rolling over in bed brings exquisite sensations.... In that case, one doesn't really have any choice but to hang out in shivasana all day. Not knowing much about your personal condition, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to stick to poses that keep you firmly rooted to the ground, or even supine, if you're not sure of your balance. Simple seated meditation and shivasana?

    Best of luck,

    Chris

Bala, I hate to say this, but you might want to try taking a decongestant...

Hey Chris, thanks for your reply and suggestions, i appreciate them. So... sure enough, i wound up having a vertabrae out of place(yikes) thanks to the help of my dear sister who is an awesome massage therapist and my PT things are doing sooooo much better!
